Anyone tried this hand-powered clothes washer?

Re: Anyone tried this hand-powered clothes washer?
Yep. Works great and uses not much water or soap. We only test washed. We have a low water and power using, american made, big clothes washer, and bought that in case of total grid outage.
It does not hold much, but more than you might think. |

My brother had one of those in 1972 and he loved it. It cost about 2/3 of a week's wages at that time.

Re: Anyone tried this hand-powered clothes washer?
Those were pretty cool videos. One thing I noticed right off. With that Wonderwasher, you would want to attach it to a table or something, so you don't have to bend over to use it. Also, you would want a "clean" place to do laundry, hopefully someplace dedicated to it, where you wouldn't worry about dropping your freshly rinsed shirt in the dirt.
On the subject of water conservation, a commercial laundry here in town disposes of wash water to sewer, but reuses rinse water as the next wash water. If you have a dedicated water heater (not your pans in which you cook food), then you could do that as well. Thanks. |
Re: Anyone tried this hand-powered clothes washer?
We've got one. Seems to work fine. Just make sure you don't overload the thing or you just end up with a lump of soapy clothes. We've also got the spin dryer they sell and it gets the clothes fairly dry. Dry enough to hang for a little bit or iron and put away. Definitely cheaper to use than a coventional washer and dryer.

They're easy enough to find at estate auctions.

The redneck doing field laundry on youtube lost me when he talked about reducing the g-forces.
It's close to the 4 minute mark. I'm still laughing... |
